Add an engagement binder

Follow these steps to add an engagement binder.
  1. Select
    Setup
    , then
    Engagement Binders
    .
    tip
    You can add an engagement binder direct in the Workpapers Dashboard. Select the briefcase icon in the Engagement Binders Tree portlet.
  2. Select
    Add
    .
  3. Enter a name for your binder.
  4. Select an
    Engagement Type
    .
    note
    In an Audit-type engagement, you must comply with both the Statement on Auditing Standards (SAS) No. 103 (non-public clients) and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) Auditing Standard No. 3, indicate whether the engagement is a public or a non-public audit, and enter a report release date in the
    Audit Documents Date
    section. The application reminds you when the completion deadline approaches.
  5. Select a
    Source

    1. Choose a
      Client
      and
      Engagement binder
      if you select
      Existing
      . Only the folders, folder structure, and workpapers are copied into the new binder, and not any notes or signoffs.

    When you choose
    UltraTax CS
    or
    GoSystem Tax
    as the source when setting up a new engagement, an identical tax folder structure is automatically created in the Engagement Binders Tree portlet for the following entity types: 1040, 1041, 1065, 1065PR (UltraTax CS only), 1120, 1120PR (UltraTax CS only), 1120S, 1120SPR (UltraTax CS only), 5500, 990, and 990PF (UltraTax CS only). You can change the tax entity type on the Accounting Information tab on the
    Client
    s screen.

    Status

  8. Select a
    Period ending date
    .
  9. Enter the beginning and ending dates for your engagement.
  10. Mark the checkboxes to give your staff members access to this engagement.
  11. note
    Your staff members need security privileges to be included in
    Staff Assignment
    .
  12. (Optional) If you have the Fieldwork module for Smart Practice Aids, select the PPC tab to add your engagement to a SMART Practice Aid engagement.
  13. Select
    Enter
    , then
    Done
    .
tip
You can select
Sort Order
on the
Engagement Binder
screen to change the order of the list of binders as they appear on the Engagement Binders Tree portlet. Select a binder then use the up and down arrows to move it in the list.
  • The Workpapers Dashboard must be closed and reopened if the binder sort order is changed while the dashboard is open.
  • Changing the sort order of engagement binders applies to the Engagement Binders Tree portlet only, and doesn't affect how the binders are listed in the Engagement Binders screen.
